The coronavirus has hit the town’s plans to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, it was revealed this week.
Cameron Knox, chairman of Hawick Community Council, one of the groups spearheading the celebrations, said: “We have very reluctantly come to the decision, like so many others have in recent days, to postpone our event.”
Self-isolating Provost and wife ‘feel fine’
Provost Watson McAteer has been self isolating at home with his wife Janette this week after returning from Spain last Saturday morning.
He told The Hawick Paper that he returned home suffering “all the symptoms of a cold and rather than take any risks decided it would be best to self-isolate for the recommended seven days.
