    Call to up ante in shoplifting battle

    Two serious incidents involving alleged shoplifting in the town have reignited concerns over the safety of retail staff and shoppers, with calls for police numbers to be doubled.

    The Hawick Paper has viewed reports of a supermarket manager being assaulted and an alleged shoplifter brandishing a knife at a customer who tried to prevent him from leaving the premises.
