The final edition of The Hawick Paper will roll off the presses on July 30 as no new owner has been found to secure its future.
The newspaper was placed on the market earlier this year, creating an opportunity for someone to take on a respected, well-established and profitable local business that has become a trusted voice for Hawick and district.
There has been “significant interest” in the title since its sale was announced in February, though extensive efforts to reach an agreement were unsuccessful.
Editor and proprietor Jason Marshall commented: “My priority has always been to ensure The Hawick Paper continues serving the town long into the future, but without a buyer in place the final edition will be published on July 31.
“It’s a very sad outcome, as the paper has been such an important part of community life – and I’m sure it will be greatly missed by readers, contributors, and everyone who has supported it over the years.”
The paper was launched in August 2016.
