More than 400 people responded to a community banking survey, Hawick Development Trust (HDT) told the paper this week.
It was launched by HDT last month, and followed the announcement in March that Santander is to close its High Street branch in July.
It also came in the wake of the decision by TSB to relocate its banking hub from the Heart of Hawick to Jedburgh.
