    Council tax hike amid £50m deficit

    A potential council tax increase of ten per cent next year has led to deep concerns over “those least able to pay”.

    The proposed tax hike would bring in around an extra £7million to support the delivery of Scottish Borders Council services, Suzy Douglas, the local authority’s finance director, said in her budget planning assumptions report.
