Kiwi couple and adopted Teries George and Peggy Keown celebrated their golden wedding at home last Saturday.
George came to Scotland as a teacher in 1967, securing a post at Burnfoot school. He boarded with Peter and Cathie Johnston, of Silverbuthall, during which time he fell in love with the town and its rugby heritage.
He returned to the land of his birth the following year and met fellow teacher, Peggy Morgan. On May 9, 1970, when both were teaching at Wellington’s Kelburn Normal School, they got married in New Plymouth. George was 28 and Peggy 26.
