A link between one of the biggest battles of the First World War and both Hawick and Scottish soldiers who fought and died there, was forged in Wilton Lodge Park last Friday night with the unveiling of the Passchendaele silhouette negatives. History in the making was being witnessed.
It is thanks to the Callants’ Club and, in particular, members Alan Brydon and Sandy Laing, that Hawick has secured these historic symbols of what was one of the bloodiest conflicts in 1917, with casualties into the hundreds of thousands on both sides.
