    Demise of local paper is sad loss to the town

    The ceasing publication from today of the Hawick News is a sad day for local newspapers in the Borders.

    Yet another title has gone due to a changing world in which large newspaper groups move towards centralisation of resources, with very few, if any, reporters based on their local patch.
