    Hawick came as close as they have done this season to ‘winning on the road’  but the final 10 minutes at The Greenyards on Saturday proved fatal.

    Defeat was not due to the unusual 1pm kick-off or the wind and rain which blew down the field – instead the Melrose victory was marked by a powerful forwards’ surge – and this after a swirling wind had denied young Drew Davison’s run to the line and an almost definite try.
