A sponsored charity walk raised a remarkable £4,456 for Macmillan Cancer Support and organiser Margaret Young was overwhelmed by the public’s generosity.
“I can’t thank everyone enough,” she said. Some 120 people completed the nine-mile walk over part of the Common-Riding route, starting out at Margaret’s Flex Farm home, heading to Acreknowe, Stobs Loch, then up to Penchrise, past the miniature railway, then on to Shankend Viaduct and down to Stobs Farm, past Stobs Castle and Stobs Cottage, before ending at Cogsmill hall, where there was welcome soup and rolls.
The fund-raiser was inspired by Margaret’s own illness. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and just wanted to give something back,” she explained. She is grateful for all the support and help in organising the event, particularly from her daughter Sylvia Grieve.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have raised so much, and thank everyone who donated.”
