    Railway society still in full steam 50 years on

    Hawick and District Railway Society was formed 50 years ago this week on the northbound platform of the town’s station.

    After a brief ban from the station was imposed on trainspotters in 1967, a local signalman suggested they get together and form an official group.

    As a result the long-standing club was born – and to this day it still meets twice a week.
