Policing in Hawick and the Borders is being controlled by budget and not by the needs of the community, resulting in hard-working local officers striving to do their best without adequate government support.
That is the view of town councillor and ex-police chief, Watson McAteer, who voiced his concerns in a recent letter to the Scottish Government’s cabinet secretary for justice.
Councillor McAteer, who is also chairman of Scottish Borders Council’s police, fire and rescue and safer communities board, is angered by the reply he received from Michael Matheson MP, describing it as “entirely predictable and very disappointing”.
