    It must have been galling for Hawick’s director of rugby, Brian Renwick, to watch his side crash at home on Saturday to Watsonians, even more so with five Borderers in the opposition line-up.

    Ex-Greens Rory Hutton, Scott McLeod and Ross Graham, aided by former Gala stars, Craig Borthwick and Euan Dods, were in the winning team and signalled the changing face of club rugby.

    “It is difficult to watch (in these circumstances), but it is a semi-professional game and that is the world that we are in. It is hard to watch Hawick boys playing for another team.
