A long injury list has prevented Hawick Youth Rugby from fielding an under-18 development team under the Wanderers brand so far this season, but coach Gerry McGuiness believes there is light at the end of the tunnel.
The club decided not to go ahead with last weekend’s friendly for the Wanderers against Jed Thistle due to the number of injuries.
However, fixtures against Kelso and Duns have been lined up later this month, and the club plans to go ahead with the Wanderers v PSA match on November 10.
“The injuries have been horrendous,” McGuiness told The Hawick Paper. “Down at Tynedale a couple of Saturdays ago Ben Murdoch suffered a cut eye and needed five stitches. Young Chris Tait, who is one of the Langholm boys, got a knock on the back of the head and is concussed, so that ruled him out for three weeks.
“One of our other props, Ryan Toogood, has been out under the concussion protocol as well.
“Calum Renwick was sent off and banned for five weeks. Aaron Fletcher broke a bone in his pinkie. Ben Shelley damaged his AC joint in one of the warm-up games in August and is only just back training again, so you couldn’t make it up.”
