Record-breaking rower Sir Chay Blyth was thrilled to add another award to his collection – a Great Shogan Samurai Award.
The famous Teri was presented with the accolade at the Scottish Samurai Awards, held every year to celebrate those who serve and excel in any area of activity.
Created by the first ever Scottish Samurai Thomas Blake Glover – who arrived in Nagasaki from Aberdeen in 1859 and was the first non-Japanese to be awarded the Order of the Rising Sun – individuals are nominated then scrutinised by the award committee.
And on Sunday at Aberdeen’s Marcliffe Hotel, Hawick’s own Sir Chay was awarded for his services to Scotland and to pioneering and adventure.
The 77-year old told The Hawick Paper: “I had never heard of the awards until about six months ago, but it was a fantastic occasion and the room was filled.
“I was delighted with the award, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole day.”
