Following a heavy defeat at the hands of Spartans in their opening league game, Hawick Royal Albert perhaps thought things couldn’t get any worse.
But at Albert Park on Wednesday night they did, Selkirk’s ten-goal blitz meaning that the Albert have conceded 17 in their first two games and scored none.
Had it not been for a string of fine saves from 16-year-old Albert trialist goalkeeper Andy McNamara, the visitors would have won by more.
The Greenock youngster was thrown in at the deep end to replace Chris Scott, another trialist who had been injured in the warm up, and put up the shutters on several occasions.
Commenting on the game, Albert manager Kenny Aitchison told The Hawick Paper: “We got off to a bad start, and never recovered. It was a very disappointing result.”
