A local fishmonger is resorting to pedal power to help support the future of rugby in the town.
George McCulloch, 50, is halfway through a challenge which will see him cycle to every semi-junior sevens tournament on the spring circuit.
The ‘Tour De Sevens’ McCulloch’s Seafood owner cycle to Peebles and Kelso,with Gala, Selkirk and Jed-Forest still to visit.
George completed a similar challenge about six years ago to raise money for Hawick PSA, but now he is hoping to raise much needed cash for the new Hawick Youth Rugby set-up.
George said: “I think I have around 120 miles in total to complete and it is a fun challenge. The idea is for people to guess the total amount of time it will take to cycle to the various grounds.
“I’m delighted to do my bit to raise money for youth rugby as these are exciting times with the Albion, PSA and Wanderers coming together under one name. The new set-up has created competition for places and it is a positive new development.”
