St Margaret’s Primary School cook Christine Laidlaw has retired from her role at the school after 23 years.
A special concert was held in her honour on the final day of school before the Easter break, and the event proved to be “very emotional” for the popular staff member.
The 17 current pupils at the school put on a performance to remember with gymnastics, dancing and even performed a special song in honour of Christine. Speaking to The Hawick Paper about the touching ceremony, Christine, 61 said: “Every child put in so much effort and it was especially nice to see a few former teachers and pupils at the event. It really was a great show.”
Staff also celebrated Christine’s retirement the prior with a meal at Adam’s Kitchen. Reflecting on her time at the Buccleuch Terrace school, Christine said: “I always wished I had kept a book of notes of some of the things the kids said and did over the years. There really were some great moments and fantastic memories. I have seen pupils grow into adults and some of their children now attend the school.”
Christine, who lives at the top of Stobs Road, began her own education at the former Cogsmill primary before transferring to Drumlanrig. She is the Cogsmill WRI secretary.
