Plans are well under way for the 56th annual Jimmie Guthrie Memorial Run on Sunday, June 18.

This year’s event, which takes on added poignancy due to it being the 80th anniversary of the motorcyling racing legend’s death in the 1937 German Grand Prix, will be attended by Jimmie’s son, Jimmie jnr, who lives in South Africa, and his daughter, Margaret Bowen, of Devon.

The run, which will be approximately 40 miles in length, has already attracted more than 50 entries comprising classic motorbikes and cars, and will get under way in customary fashion from the village green in Denholm at 1pm. Participants will then make for Bonchester Bridge, Jedburgh, Harestanes, Ancrum and Hawick, where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at Jimmie’s memorial statue in Wilton Lodge Park.

Earlier in the day, there will be an auto jumble and car boot sale in Denholm, where those taking part will pay £5 on arrival.

The event is being supported by long-term sponsor, Bonhams.
