More than 100 people attended the annual Wilton Lodge Park scarecrow and pumpkin-carving day, with 48 pumpkins and four scarecrow entries, writes Staff Reporter.

The winning scarecrow entry was Twizzle Gummage, made by Ruby Girvan; followed closely by scarecrows by Ryan Hume and Rhea Page Caruthers.

Twizzle Gummage will take pride of place in the Walled Garden in spring next year when planting begins.

The best pumpkins were by Sophie Swan, Emma Rooney and Oliver Grieve. Gordon Webber, Wilton Lodge Park events manager, said: “This was the biggest turnout we’ve had for the event and many of the pumpkin carving entrants now come with their special ideas and designs.

“The event makes use of the pumpkins that the volunteers grow in the Walled Garden and was a great day for all ages.”
