    Work set to start on hospital site’s £5M conversion

    News that plans to convert the former Cottage Hospital into 14 flats are “at an advanced stage” has been welcomed as “another positive step in the regeneration of the town”

    Flats development to transform ‘The Cottage’

    News that plans to convert the former Cottage Hospital into 14 flats are “at an advanced stage” has been welcomed as “another positive step in the regeneration of the town”.

    The ambitious development at the Buccleuch Road site, which is thought to be costing around £5million, also includes a new two-storey house to the rear of the hospital building and 23 parking spaces.

    One the town’s most historic buildings, the hospital was built by public subscription, following a bazaar to raise funds, and opened on August 31, 1885.

    “The Cottage”, as it was known to generations of Teries, closed in 2005, and planning permission was originally granted in 2007, when the listed building remained vacant and boarded up.
