
Given the town’s recent rise in crime, the announcement of nine additional police officers for the Borders is welcome news.
But local councillor and ex-detective chief superintendent Watson McAteer still feels Hawick isn’t adequately policed.
“It is clear through recent experience that there are not enough officers for Hawick so it’s time the focus on budget was replaced – as it used to be –by operational need,” he explained.
