    Bravery award for Ryan after trapped pilot rescue

    Ryan Palmer receives his commendation award from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer Paul Hancock

    Ryan Palmer has been honoured for his courage after saving the life of a pilot trapped in his aircraft following an emergency landing.

    The 38-year-old Teri, then operation supervisor at Carlisle Lake District Airport and an aviation firefighter, along with colleague Gavin McGarrigle, risked their own safety as they rescued the seriously injured pilot, who was stuck upside down and surrounded by leaking fuel.
