A Hawick High School media group has been given top marks by staff this week after reaching its tenth year in operation.
The Buccleuch Road school has boasted a news team since it began back in 2008 – and in a decade it has grown into a team of 20 and a ‘Hawick High Media’ brand.
Hawick High School communications manager, Ronald Yule, explained: “The team has grown dramatically over the years. The pupils cover stories happening in the school and the wider community. And they are responsible for sourcing, writing, filming and editing the whole production.”
A new school magazine is being released this month, and the pupils also write stories for The Hawick Paper and school website. They also produce special videos for the school, including prizegiving events, and Hawick High Sport.
Mr Yule added: “What they do really is mammoth. We have a great group of students, who are getting to learn a variety of skills, doing something that isn’t in any other school on this scale.”
Deputy head teacher Vicki Blair said: “As a school we are extremely proud of the huge impact Hawick High News has had over ten years.”
