The Katharine Elliot Centre (KEC) yesterday celebrated an incredible 50 years of service with a tree planting ceremony, the burial of a time capsule and a disco requested by service users.
More than 60 service users, staff, family carers and other invited guests gathered at Howdenbank to mark the occasion with speeches and a buffet lunch.
One of five day support services provided for people with a learning disability across the Borders, and was established in 1973.
The time capsule idea came from service users themselves. Among the items buried and not to be disturbed for another 25 years were a Covid test kit, a pound coin, a mobile phone, a newspaper, a note of the song top of the charts, pictures of service users, a staff list and a business card from Provost Watson McAteer.
