    How the kindness of Hawick folk captured a German PoW’s heart

    Former prisoner of war Rudolf Drabner, who died earlier this month aged 99, never returned to his native Germany after the Second World War and made a new life for himself in Hawick.

    Rudi, as he was better known, was born in Maltsch, Silesia, on November 6, 1921.
