    As a devoted family man, valued friend and former rugby player of great renown, the passing of Tom Lyall is being keenly felt in the town.

    The 79-year-old, who died on May 26, was a weel-kent face in Hawick. Greatly respected, highly principled and never one to seek the limelight, Tom was also honest, loyal and fair, qualities that endeared him to all.
