    Lee lands top job as Cornet after 11-year ‘apprenticeship’

    He was on crutches the week before the first ride-out, had to ride a Chase with a patch over one eye and had a horse go lame on him during Common-Riding weekend.

    Lee Matthews’ tenure as Cornet in 1995 was, at times, an eventful one, but also one which saw him bursting with pride as he led the town’s annual celebrations in a first-class manner.
