    Greens greats: Rob Welsh, ten in a row was unforgettable

    Rob Welsh was a member of the superb Hawick Rugby Club sevens squad that won ten tournaments in a row in the 1960s – and he remembers that time as “magical”.

    By September of 1966 the Greens held eight Borders sevens trophies and in the spring of 1967 they won at Gala and Melrose again.

    The run came to and end in mid-April that year when Kelso defeated Hawick in their own tournament at Mansfield Park, but John Auchinleck, Alec Graham, Rob Brydon, Jim Hay, Bryan Patterson, Doug Jackson, Colin Telfer, Peter Robertson, Norman Suddon, Harry Whittaker, George Stevenson and Alex Jackson went down in history.
