Galalaw’s new industrial units welcomed their first tenant earlier this week when interior and flooring contractor CR8 Flooring Ltd, moved in to the £1million project.
The unit provides the operational hub for the business which also has premises at Oliver Crescent.
A Scottish Borders Council spokesperson confirmed: “The first tenant moved in on Monday, however, officers are liaising with Scottish Government regarding an official opening, with availability meaning that will now not take place until early 2019.
“It may be that that also coincides with a further tenant moving in.
“There is no change to estimated jobs impact – that is not necessarily at initial entry of businesses, but over a period of time – say five years.”
Around ten jobs are expected to be created at the site.
Discussions are ongoing with other potential tenants.
The project is expected to be completed within the original budget of just over £1million.
Ward councillor Stuart Marshall commented: “It’s great to hear that at long last we have at least one tenant taking occupancy in these units.
“It is very important that SBC now move to accelerate getting the rest of the units filled soon.
“It would also be good to get an understanding as to how many new jobs are going to be created by this £1million development.”
