The new futuristic bar and lounge fitted by Gaskell and Chambers in 1957.

Northville, now a private residence in North Bridge Street, was constructed in the latter part of the 19th century for the Blenkhorn family. It later became Gibson’s Temperance Hotel, before re-opening as the King’s Hotel after WWII.

The King’s soon expanded into the adjacent building. For a few years it was run as the Roxburgh Inn, but by the mid-1990s the building had fallen on hard times and was empty for about a decade. In 2005 the main building was converted into housing units. The King’s was famous for live music, including the King’s Hotel Quintet, John Reid Band and even the Bay City Rollers!
